KABARBUSA.COM - Amid the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), Indonesia has the potential to become an attractive market for AI investment in the next few years. Economist from the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) Nailul Huda, sees this trend as a great opportunity for investment, especially in the domestic technology sector such as data centers. "The impact is that the need for data centers is getting higher," said Huda via written message to Kabarbursa.com in Jakarta, Friday, January 3, 2025. Although Indonesia faces challenges in developing domestic technology, Huda assessed that the need for larger data centers will be increasingly urgent along with the rapid development of AI. "I see that the future trend of AI can still develop and more and more companies will adopt it," he said. Huda said that the government's policy requiring data servers to only be used domestically is a challenge in itself. However, this can be an opportunity for the local data center industry. Because, this policy actually supports the development of domestic technology, including the provision of stronger data center services. However, behind the potential, Huda emphasized that Indonesia still faces major challenges in terms of domestic technology development. "Unfortunately, [Indonesia's] domestic technology is still far behind. Starting from innovation, human resources (HR), to (the capacity of) Indonesian hardware factories, it is still behind compared to other countries," he explained. In other words, Indonesia has great potential to quickly adopt technology due to its large population. However, there is still a significant gap between needs and capabilities in meeting them. This means that Indonesia needs to focus on developing domestic technology and strengthening human resource capacity. Investment Increases Sixfold Meanwhile, investment in generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) technology in Indonesia has shown a very rapid increase in the last three years. Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid, revealed that this sector has increased more than sixfold, marking the acceleration of technology adoption and development in the country. In 2021, investment in generative AI only reached USD4 billion or around IDR63.7 trillion with an exchange rate of IDR15,947 per US dollar. However, in 2023, this figure will jump to USD25 billion or around IDR398 trillion. Generative AI, which is able to create new content such as text, images, and audio, is one of the main drivers of innovation in various sectors. This significant increase reflects the seriousness of business actors in the private sector to adopt advanced technology to increase their competitiveness in the digital era. "In Indonesia, the development of AI has experienced extraordinary significance. Investment in generative AI technology has increased more than sixfold," said Meutya at the AI for Indonesia event held in Jakarta on December 4, 2024. However, the acceleration of AI technology has also had a diverse impact on the job market. In developed countries or the global north with high incomes, around 60 percent of jobs have been affected by the presence of AI. Meanwhile, in developing countries or the global south, the impact of AI varies, with 40 percent and 26 percent of jobs in middle- and low-income countries respectively affected by this technology. Meutya highlighted that developed countries such as the United States, Spain, Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands, and France currently dominate the demand for AI job markets at the global level. To accelerate equitable digital transformation, the Indonesian government is actively collaborating with various global technology companies. One of the main goals is to build digital infrastructure and develop local digital talent, especially those related to AI technology. "We are working with several global tech companies to realize digital talents, especially in the field of AI," explained Meutya. In addition to supporting the private sector, generative AI also has great potential to improve public services. This technology can be used to analyze and process big data efficiently and effectively. As a concrete step, the government plans to build a number of national data centers that aim to integrate various data services. One of these national data centers will be built in Cikarang, West Java. The existence of this national data center is expected to support the One Data Indonesia program, which aims to unite all government data into one valid and sustainable base. The integrated data will be an important foundation in implementing AI technology for various public services, both in policy planning and providing services to the community. "This data center has a vital role to ensure that AI technology can be utilized optimally, based on data validity and continuity," added Meutya. With increasing investment, active international cooperation, and a comprehensive digital infrastructure development plan, Indonesia is in a strategic position to become one of the leaders in generative AI technology in the Asian region. This digital transformation is not only a driver of economic growth, but also an important milestone in Indonesia's journey towards digital sovereignty and global competitiveness in the era of advanced technology. PR GARUT - The construction of the inner-city toll road in Bandung, known as the Bandung Intraurban Toll Road (BIUT), is a major highlight in the world of Indonesian infrastructure. This project aims to overcome the severe traffic jams that often occur in the central area of Bandung and its surroundings. However, this major project is still waiting for an important decision from the central government to be continued. Currently, the construction of this toll road is in the feasibility study stage and requires further approval, especially regarding instructions from the President of the Republic of Indonesia. Director General of Highways at the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Rahman Arief Dinaputra, explained that the construction of this toll road will be continued after there is official direction from the President. Even so, the evaluation process for the feasibility study (FS) continues. The PUPR Ministry is completing various technical and financial studies to ensure the feasibility of this project before moving on to the next stage. Rahman also emphasized that the decision to continue or postpone this project depends entirely on the President's decision. The PUPR Ministry will submit the results of the study to the President, who will determine whether this project can be continued or must be postponed, based on the country's fiscal capacity and national development needs at that time. This shows the importance of coordination between the central government and related parties to ensure that every decision taken can provide optimal benefits for the community. The Bandung Intraurban Toll Road project itself has been officially registered as a National Strategic Project (PSN) through the Coordinating Ministerial Regulation (Permenko) Number 6 of 2024. This PSN involves a number of other large projects that aim to encourage economic growth and reduce infrastructure gaps in various regions in Indonesia. The construction of toll roads in Bandung is considered very important to improve connectivity between regions and support local economic development. One of the main reasons why this project must go through an in-depth study is to ensure that infrastructure development not only facilitates mobility, but also supports food security and other vital sectors. Minister of PUPR, Dodi Hanggodo, emphasized that every infrastructure project implemented must have a positive impact on the economy and national resilience. Therefore, in addition to transportation, infrastructure development must also pay attention to sectors that have a broad impact, such as food security. In addition, the Director General of Infrastructure Financing of the PUPR Ministry, Triono Juniasmono, or familiarly called Yongki, revealed that further studies on this toll road project are targeted for completion in early 2026. The study aims to ensure that the decisions taken are based on comprehensive data and analysis, so that this project can run smoothly and provide maximum benefits. The investment needed to continue the construction of this toll road is estimated to reach around Rp7.83 trillion. This figure reflects the large costs that must be incurred to build this large infrastructure. Of course, this project will affect the state budget and requires careful consideration regarding national development priorities. With the large costs required, the government must conduct a careful evaluation to ensure the continuation of this project. If this project is continued, it is estimated that it will have a significant impact on reducing congestion, accelerating the mobility of goods and people, and supporting local economic growth in Bandung and its surroundings. However, the biggest challenge remains in the proper management of financing so that this project can be implemented smoothly. One aspect of concern in the construction of this toll road is the environmental impact. The government and related parties will continue to strive to minimize negative impacts on the environment and the surrounding community. An environmental impact study will be one of the important requirements before this project can be implemented, so that this development does not harm the balance of nature and the social life of the community. The Bandung inner city toll road project is expected to be a solution to the traffic congestion problem that has been the main complaint of the community. However, of course, this project must be accompanied by attention to broader social, economic, and environmental aspects, so that the benefits obtained can be felt by all parties. Overall, the success of this project is highly dependent on coordination between various parties, both at the central and regional levels. The people of Bandung certainly hope that the decisions taken can have a positive impact on the smoothness of transportation, economic development, and the quality of life of Bandung residents in general. All parties are currently still waiting for the final decision regarding this project, while continuing to develop more mature studies and planning. Thus, even though there are many hopes and challenges that accompany this project, the community hopes that the Bandung inner city toll road project can be realized soon for the progress of the city of Bandung and the common welfare.*** (SOURCE)

Tuesday (24/12/2024) was the first day of operation of Karawang Station which serves passengers on the Whoosh high-speed train operated by PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China or KCIC. Of the 48 Whoosh train schedules operating during Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025, there are 20 Whoosh trips that stop at Karawang Station. The high-speed train route from Halim Station to Karawang Station located in Wanakerta Village, Telukjambe Barat District, Karawang Regency, West Java, and vice versa, takes 15 minutes. Meanwhile, the route from Padalarang Station in West Bandung Regency to Karawang Station takes 20 minutes. The time for passengers to get on and off at Whoosh Karawang Station is only 2 minutes. In total, the Whoosh trip that serves passengers getting on and off at Karawang Station will experience an additional seven minutes of travel time. When attending the inauguration of Karawang Station, Tuesday, Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Wang Lutong said that the operation of this station shortens the distance between Jakarta and the Karawang industrial center area, West Java. This condition can increase the attractiveness of Karawang as an investment magnet in the eyes of international investors. Lutong said that Karawang is home to the manufacturing industry, especially the automotive, electronics, and household appliances industries. He added that currently there are at least 50 international companies in the industrial center which is 10 kilometers from Karawang Station. "Going to Jakarta from this area (Karawang) now only takes 15 minutes. Karawang Station presents a new landscape for connectivity between the industrial area, Jakarta, the International Port (Tanjung Priok), and the International Airport (Soekarno-Hatta). In substance, this reduces operational costs so that it will be attractive in the eyes of investors," he said. Talking about investment in Karawang, capital owned by foreign investors has so far dominated the flow of direct investment entering the district with the second largest gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in West Java. Based on data from the Investment and Integrated One-Stop Service Office of Karawang Regency, West Java, investment realization in Karawang until the third quarter of 2024 reached IDR 48.6 trillion. This figure has also exceeded the target set by the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) for 2024 of IDR 42.7 trillion. Foreign investment (PMA) dominates the total investment realization, which is IDR 42.05 trillion. The remaining IDR 6.55 trillion comes from domestic investment (PMDN). AllureInfrastructure and urban planning observer from Trisakti University, Yayat Supriatna, said that several years ago he conducted research on the interrelationship of industrial areas in Java and outside Java. The results showed that most industrial areas outside Java only produce semi-finished products. The majority of these semi-finished products are sent to Java, one of which is to the Karawang industrial area. The existence of industry increases the potential for regional growth. "The existence of industrial areas is believed to encourage the growth of Karawang and its surrounding areas," he said. Without the presence of the Karawang KCIC Station, the allure of Karawang Regency as an investment center is already very large. This is considering that Karawang is flanked by three growth centers, namely Jabodetabek, Greater Bandung, and Greater Cirebon, with reliable connectivity in the form of the Trans-Java Toll Road. Karawang is also supported by Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta and Patimban Port in Subang. To support transportation hubs in this area, the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road has been developed with the widening of the lanes from West Karawang to East Karawang. "Karawang is like just turning a blind eye, the money comes by itself. When compared to the IKN (national capital), we need an investment of IDR 400 trillion. If the need is IDR 10 trillion per year, that means we need 40 years. Meanwhile, Karawang can approach IDR 29 trillion in one year. This is a big market power," explained Yayat. So cosmeticsThe presence of Karawang Station which is crossed by the Whoosh train is considered only as additional cosmetics to attract investors which can shorten the travel time for individuals from Karawang to Jakarta which is currently still the center of the Indonesian government. The ticket price for the Whoosh train on the Halim-Karawang route and vice versa is IDR 125,000, while for the Karawang-Padalarang/Tegalluar-Summarecon route and vice versa it is priced at IDR 175,000 for premium economy class. As for the business class and first class fares, they are at IDR 450,000 and IDR 600,000. For executive level officials (c-level) in international companies operating in Karawang, the ticket price is certainly very affordable. This is considering that the travel time to Jakarta from Karawang can be shortened to only 15 minutes. Currently, the travel time to KCIC Karawang Station from the economic center of this region in Karawang International Industrial City is around 30 minutes using a four-wheeled vehicle. To access KCIC Karawang Station, passengers using private vehicles from the West Karawang Toll Gate can go via Jalan Badami then enter Jalan Pasar Jati and Jalan Raya Pangkalan. KCIC Karawang Station is connected to the toll road via the West Karawang Toll Gate Kilometer 47 Jakarta-Cikampek. Supporting infrastructureCoordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono when inaugurating the operation of Karawang Station ensured that the government will provide full support to improve connectivity between KCIC Karawang Station and the industrial area in Karawang. The commitment is intended to maximize the economic impact of the station's existence. "The existence of KCIC Karawang Station can increase economic value, community welfare, and expand economic investment not only for Karawang, but also nationally," he said. President Director of PT KCIC Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi said that gradually, the number of train departures will be increased to 62 departures in February 2025. The increase in the number of train departures will be carried out in line with improvements in access and supporting infrastructure connecting the station with the industrial activity center in Karawang. According to Dwiyana, the increase in passengers will be supported by connectivity services, one of which is a free shuttle bus for Whoosh fast train passengers, which connects KCIC Karawang Station with the Summarecon Villagio Outlet shopping center to facilitate passenger mobility. "With complete access improvements, KCIC Karawang Station is targeted to be able to transport 14,000 passengers per day. It is targeted that various infrastructure and supporting facilities for the station to facilitate passenger access can be completed in July 2025," he said. (SOURCE)
