Economic Growth of 9.01 Percent, Second Highest in West Java

The rapid investment growth is in line with Majalengka's surge in economic growth, which recorded 9.01 percent, the second highest in West Java.

This situation also contributed to a decrease in the unemployment rate from 4.01 percent to 3.62 percent, driven by the community economic empowerment program through MATA HATI.

Poverty Decreases, Thousands of Residents Lifted Out of the Vulnerable Line
Not only macro indicators, the impact of development is also felt directly by the community. The poverty rate has been reduced by 0.51 percent, or the equivalent of 6,110 people lifting themselves out of poverty throughout 2025.

Infrastructure Strengthened, Roads Improved, and Thousands of Rutilahu (Houses) Built

The regional government continues to strengthen the investment foundation through infrastructure development. Currently, 88.19 percent of district roads are in good condition.

Karawang EV Battery Plant Set to Begin Operations in Late July 2026, Boosting Clean Energy Investment

The industrial zone in Karawang Regency, West Java, continues to strengthen its position as a hub for Indonesia's strategic industries. After more than a year of construction, the integrated electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing plant, developed through a collaboration between global companies and Indonesian state-owned enterprises, has entered its final stage of completion. The facility is scheduled to commence operations in late July 2026, marking a significant milestone in strengthening Indonesia's electric vehicle ecosystem. The project is being developed by a consortium comprising Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL), PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam), and Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC). Located in Karawang, the plant will have an annual production capacity of 15 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of battery cells. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia confirmed that construction of the facility has been completed. He made the announcement after attending a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday (June 22, 2026). "The electric vehicle battery project developed through the collaboration between CATL and Antam has been completed. Its inauguration is scheduled for late July," Bahlil said. The battery plant forms part of Indonesia's integrated EV battery industry project, spanning the entire value chain from upstream to downstream under the government's mineral downstreaming strategy. The project covers nickel ore processing, refining, battery material production, and battery cell manufacturing to serve both the domestic electric vehicle industry and export markets. The project carries a total investment value of approximately US$5.9 billion (around Rp96 trillion). It is being developed by Ningbo Contemporary Brunp Lygend Co. Ltd. (CBL)—a joint venture established by CATL, Brunp, and Lygend—in partnership with Antam and IBC as Indonesia's national partners. Development of the battery industrial complex began with a groundbreaking ceremony led by President Prabowo Subianto in June 2025 in Karawang. Since then, the project has been accelerated as part of the government's strategy to increase the value-added of Indonesia's nickel resources while reducing dependence on raw material exports. Prior to this project, Indonesia had already established its first EV battery cell manufacturing facility through PT HLI Green Power, a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Group, LG Energy Solution, and IBC, which began operations in Karawang in July 2024. With an investment of approximately Rp13.5 trillion, the facility became Indonesia's first EV battery cell manufacturing plant and one of the largest in Southeast Asia. The commencement of operations at the CATL–Antam–IBC battery plant is expected to further strengthen Indonesia's position as one of the world's emerging electric vehicle battery manufacturing hubs. The Bandung City Government has made reducing the open unemployment rate a top priority in its future development agenda. Farhan stated that Bandung’s current open unemployment rate stands at 7.44 percent, higher than the average rate in West Java. This condition has become a major concern as it directly affects public welfare and economic growth. “This is a very significant challenge. We aim to drive Bandung’s economic growth to reach 7 to 8 percent within the next three years,” Farhan said. To achieve this target, the Bandung City Government will promote several leading economic sectors, one of which is the fashion industry. According to Farhan, Bandung has strong potential as a creative city closely associated with fashion trends. “Bandung must return to its identity as a fashion city. This is a sector that can be developed to create employment opportunities,” he said. In addition, the city government is paying serious attention to infrastructure improvements, particularly road conditions. Farhan acknowledged that the level of road serviceability in Bandung has declined. “It used to be above 95 percent, but now it is approaching 90 percent.
