Vietnamese electric car manufacturer VinFast Auto officially started construction of its first electric vehicle assembly plant in Indonesia, marked by the laying of the first stone in Subang, West Java, Monday (15/7/2024), directly by the Chief of Presidential Staff, Moeldoko. VinFast assesses that RI is one of the most promising electric vehicle markets in Southeast Asia.
The factory, which is located in a developing industrial area in Subang, was built with an initial investment of around US$ 200 million or IDR 3.23 trillion (exchange rate IDR 16,160). This factory will operate with an annual production capacity of 50,000 vehicle units and includes several main production areas such as the Body Shop, General Assembly Shop, Paint Shop and testing area, etc.
VinFast schedules this factory to start operating in Q4 2025 and will produce right-hand drive versions of e-SUV models, including the VF 3, VF 5, VF 6 and VF 7 series for the Indonesian market.
This project is expected to create thousands of local jobs, increase the number of skilled workers, and make a significant contribution to the economic and social development of local communities. Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko assesses that this project is also ready to have a big impact in encouraging environmentally friendly transportation in Indonesia.
"The presence of VinFast will not only have a positive impact on the regional economy, but will also open up new job opportunities and improve the welfare of the surrounding community," he said.
"The Indonesian government strongly encourages foreign investment into our country, especially in the automotive industry sector. We believe that the presence of VinFast will bring technological innovation and knowledge transfer that is much needed to increase the competitiveness of the national automotive industry," said Moeldoko.
Currently, Vinfast has launched two right-hand drive electric SUV models, the VF 5 and VF e34, opened a dealer store, and implemented a flexible sales policy including a pioneering battery subscription program. VinFast Indonesia CEO Temmy Wiradjaja stated, VinFast strives to be a pioneer of the high-tech industry in Southeast Asia with global influence.
"We are holding this groundbreaking event just a few months after VinFast officially arrived in Indonesia, this confirms VinFast's strategic expansion and competitiveness in Southeast Asia, as well as marking an important milestone in our strategy to become a leading player in one of the most promising electric vehicle markets in this region," he said.
