West Java Economy Projected to Grow Better in 2025, Facing New Leadership Challenges

POJOKSATU.ID — Bank Indonesia (BI) projects that the West Java economy in 2025 will grow better than in 2024, with a growth target of 4.7% to 5.5% (year on year/yoy).   This optimism is supported by the global economic recovery and the strengthening of the domestic economy which is expected to continue.   Head of the West Java Bank Indonesia Representative Office, Muhammad Nur, stated that this positive projection was driven by several key factors. One of them is the increase in people's purchasing power along with the increase in the West Java Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP). In addition, private investment is also expected to increase with an investment target of IDR 270 trillion in 2025.   "Public optimism and increased private investment are the main driving forces for the West Java economy. We hope that this target can be achieved while maintaining price stability and encouraging new sources of economic growth," said Muhammad Nur when met in Bandung.   However, Muhammad Nur emphasized that West Java also faces major challenges, especially related to the transition of national leadership. The central government's policy within the framework of the "Asta Cita" vision promoted by the new government has the potential to affect the flow of funds to the regions, given the increasingly limited fiscal space.   "Strong synergy is needed between regional and central governments so that the economic policies taken can have a real impact on the regional economy. In addition, maintaining people's purchasing power, especially the lower middle class, is a priority so that economic recovery can be sustainable," explained Muhammad Nur.   Another challenge is the still high dependence on imports and the normalization of the fiscal budget after the 2024 political year. JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) opened lower during Monday's trading session (July 27, 2026).   According to Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) data at 9:00 AM WIB, the IHSG stood at 6,180.33, down 16.08 points or 0.26 percent compared to the previous closing level of 6,196.43.   In early trading, the index fluctuated between 6,172.84 and 6,188.03, reflecting persistent selling pressure dominating the market.   Early session trading activity recorded a transaction value of approximately Rp 336.7 billion, with a volume of 557.2 million shares traded across 68,480 transactions.   A total of 189 stocks gained, 239 stocks declined, and 537 stocks remained stagnant.   Market Eyes Bank Indonesia Governor's ResignationToday's movement in the IHSG takes place amid market sentiment following the resignation of Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo. The government confirmed receiving Perry's resignation letter submitted to the President on Sunday (July 26, 2026). However, the government has yet to reveal the reasons behind the decision.   "As of yesterday, we officially received the letter of resignation from the Governor of Bank Indonesia addressed to the President," said Minister of the State Secretariat, Prasetyo Hadi, on Monday (July 27, 2026).   Prasetyo stated that the government will process administrative procedures in accordance with the Bank Indonesia Law by issuing a Presidential Decree regarding Perry's honorable discharge.   Following Perry's resignation, the position of Bank Indonesia Governor will temporarily be assumed by Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti.   The appointment takes effect automatically under the provisions of the Bank Indonesia Law. Destry will subsequently fulfill all duties of the BI Governor in an acting capacity.   "The position of Governor of Bank Indonesia will automatically be held by the Senior Deputy Governor, who will then perform all duties as acting governor," Prasetyo said.   "For the record, the Senior Deputy Governor referred to is Ms. Destry Damayanti," he added.   The government also assured that policy coordination between Bank Indonesia and the Ministry of Finance remains intact.   Bank Indonesia will continue its duty of maintaining monetary stability, while the government, through the Ministry of Finance, maintains fiscal policy execution.   "BI plays a crucial role in safeguarding our monetary stability, while the government, in this case, the Ministry of Finance continues its function of maintaining fiscal policy, naturally remaining in close coordination," Prasetyo stated.   [Source]

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- Deputy Chairman of the West Java Provincial DPRD from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction, Iwan Suryawan criticized the still high level of open unemployment (TPT) in West Java for the August 2024 period which reached 6.75 percent, the highest compared to the national level of 4.91 percent.   Based on data from the West Java Central Statistics Agency (BPS), it is stated that the high TPT is contributed by the non-absorption of the workforce at the Vocational High School (SMK) education level, namely 12.74 percent.   West Java Province BPS data states that when viewed based on the highest level of education completed. TPT in August 2024 has the same pattern as August 2023. In August 2024, TPT from Vocational High School graduates still contributed the highest figure compared to graduates of other levels of education, namely 12.74 percent.   "Not matching (in harmony) between vocational school graduates and industry needs is one of the causes of still high unemployment at the vocational school level," said Iwan Suryawan in Bandung City, West Java, Monday (11/11/2024).   There needs to be goodwill from the West Java Provincial Government (Pemdaprov) to overcome the high TPT in West Java. LENGKONG, AYOBANDUNG.COM – With an investment of IDR 18.3 trillion, West Java has a unique toll road like a hot wheels track that was just completed after 12 years.   West Java has a unique toll road that connects the areas of Bandung, Sumedang, and Majalengka which is named the Cisumdawu Toll Road or the Cileunyi - Sumedang - Dawuan Toll Road.   This 61.6 kilometer long toll road costs IDR 18.3 trillion, half of which comes from the APBN, while the rest comes from a cooperation scheme between the government and the private sector or business entities (KPBU).   Interestingly, this toll road has a unique icon that is not owned by other toll roads, namely the twin tunnel (Twin Tunnel).   This twin tunnel is located in Section 2 of the Cisumdawu Toll Road, 472 meters long, which is named the longest tunnel in Indonesia that is under a hill.   The twin tunnels were built using the innovative New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) technology, which is useful for strengthening the soil before excavation.   When viewed from above, the twin tunnels make the Cisumdawu Toll Road look like a hot wheels track.   On the official bpjt.pu.go.id page, it is stated that the Cisumdawu Toll Road is the most beautiful toll road in Indonesia, one of the reasons being the unique twin tunnel icon.   In addition to having a unique twin icon of 472 meters, this toll road also connects the city of Bandung via the Cipularang Toll Road to the Cipali Toll Road.   The construction of the toll road which was inaugurated by the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo in July 2023, apparently started in 2011 during the leadership of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY).   However, in the process of its construction, the Cisumdawu Toll Road was hampered by several problems, one of which was land acquisition.   So it can be said that the construction of this 61.6 kilometer toll road was only completed after 12 years.   With the presence of this toll road, several parties claim that the route from Bandung to Cirebon via arterial roads that previously took 6 hours can be shortened to just 75 minutes.   In addition, this toll road also connects several areas in West Java, such as Bandung, Sumedang, Cirebon, to Majalengka which is the fastest access to Kertajati Airport.***   (SOURCE)
