GARUT, Tarogong Kaler – Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin emphasized the importance of the household sector in boosting regional economic growth. He made this statement while attending the 2026 Bank BIJ Budget Kickoff event held at the Harmoni Garut Hotel on Jalan Cipanas Baru, Tarogong Kaler District, Friday (12/19/2025).
The Garut Regent identified three main drivers of economic development in Garut Regency: government spending, investment, and household consumption. Given the limited government spending, Syakur continues to encourage foreign investment in Garut.
"Investment was slightly hampered yesterday, but thank God, I met with a Taiwanese company and a Korean company. They will invest approximately 350 billion rupiah in Garut Regency. This is a new energy for us," he said.
Syakur emphasized that household spending still contributes the most to Garut's economy. The challenge is that many productive activities in the community are not economically recorded due to a lack of financial literacy and digitalization.
He recounted his experience visiting a sporting event and encountering residents selling goods without clear pricing standards.
"Why? They're not economic actors, they're just housewives who usually make food for the family to consume. Is there any economic activity? They don't consider it to be, even though they're productive. When they sell individually, there's a transaction and that's recorded economically," he said.
To achieve a productive household, the Garut Regent asked financial institutions to be more proactive in providing incentives and easy financial access for the lower classes.
"So, in my mind, how can every household be more productive? How? We provide incentives, one of which is providing financial access," the Garut Regent emphasized.
