The prospect of restoring direct flights between Bandung and Pontianak has emerged as positive news for residents of West Kalimantan and West Java.
If the route is approved, travelers will be able to fly directly between the two cities without the need for a transit stop, potentially enhancing passenger mobility, supporting business activities, and stimulating tourism in both regions.
The opportunity follows Super Air Jet's proposal to launch the Bandung–Pontianak route as part of the planned reactivation and optimization of jet operations at Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung.
Arie Ahsanurrohim, Corporate Secretary Group Head of InJourney Airports, said that six airlines have so far submitted official applications to operate at Husein Sastranegara Airport.
"To date, six airlines have officially submitted applications to operate at the airport," Arie said in a statement on Monday (July 20, 2026).
Super Air Jet has proposed eight new routes from Husein Sastranegara Airport, connecting Bandung with Kualanamu, Denpasar, Pekanbaru, Makassar, Batam, Padang, Balikpapan, and Pontianak.
If approved, the Bandung–Pontianak service will provide a convenient non-stop travel option between West Java and West Kalimantan, eliminating the need for passengers to transit through other cities.
Beyond improving passenger convenience, the reinstated route is expected to support business, education, government activities, and tourism, while strengthening economic ties between the two provinces.
InJourney Airports stated that all airline applications will be processed through the airport slot allocation system, taking into account the operational capacity of Husein Sastranegara Airport.
According to Arie, the resumption of jet operations at the airport is expected to enhance air connectivity for Bandung and West Java while generating positive impacts on tourism, trade, investment, and regional economic growth.
"We hope that improved connectivity at Husein Sastranegara Airport will fully support economic growth and tourism development in West Java, particularly in the City of Bandung," he said.
