Jakarta | Antero.co – The General Chairman of the World Sundanese Community (Masda), Inspector General of Police (Ret.) Drs. Anton Charliyan, MPKN, commonly known as Abah Anton Charliyan, encouraged Chinese entrepreneurs to strengthen cooperation and investment in West Java.

This was conveyed by Abah Anton when he was a speaker at the 10th anniversary event of the International Business of the Jiangxi Entrepreneurs Association of the Indonesian Chinese Chamber of Commerce which was held at the Grand Mercure Kemayoran Hotel, Jakarta, Saturday (12/9/2026).

The event was also attended by Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI Bambang Soesatyo, Major General TNI (Ret.) Herwin, Anita Fitria, SH, MH, General Chairperson of Jiangxi Indonesia Hong Yongnian, as well as representatives of Jiangxi from Southeast Asia, Japan, Europe, and America.

In his presentation, Abah Anton said that West Java has great potential to be developed through investment cooperation, especially in the industrial, tourism, agriculture, plantation and fisheries sectors.

He also explained about the existence of the Sundanese community who not only live in West Java, but are also spread across Banten, parts of DKI Jakarta, and various regions in Indonesia.

According to Abah Anton, West Java is one of Indonesia's important industrial centers. He cited the Bekasi and Karawang areas as areas with large industrial concentrations.

In addition to the industrial sector, Abah Anton highlighted the development of the Rebana metropolitan and industrial area in northern West Java. This area encompasses several areas, including Indramayu, Cirebon City, Cirebon Regency, Kuningan, Subang, Majalengka, and Sumedang.

"West Java has significant potential for development, both in the industrial sector and elsewhere. The Rebana area is expected to become a major attraction for investors," said Abah Anton in his presentation.

He also mentioned investment and employment targets for the development of the area. However, the investment and employment figures provided still need to be confirmed through official data from the local government or relevant agencies.

Apart from industry, Abah Anton believes that West Java has great potential in the tourism sector due to its diverse natural conditions, including mountainous areas.

The agriculture and plantation sectors are also considered promising for development, particularly coffee, tea, and vegetables. Furthermore, the fisheries sector is said to be a potential area for economic cooperation.

He hopes that the presence of Jiangxi entrepreneurs in Indonesia can provide real benefits to the national economy, especially for the people of West Java.

"It is hoped that Jiangxi's presence in Indonesia will truly bring real prosperity to the Indonesian people, especially the Sundanese and West Javanese people," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI Bambang Soesatyo hopes that investments by Jiangxi entrepreneurs can contribute to improving the welfare of the Indonesian people.

"We hope that Jiangxi entrepreneurs, through their investments, can significantly help improve the welfare of the Indonesian people," said Bambang.

Chairman of Jiangxi Indonesia, Hong Yongnian, expressed his commitment to continue contributing and developing investment in Indonesia.

However, he hopes the government will provide support in the form of security and legal certainty for investors, especially those who will invest in West Java.

According to him, security and legal certainty are important factors for investment to run smoothly and not create obstacles for entrepreneurs coming to Indonesia.

Sustaining the Jatiluhur Dam: A Strategic Infrastructure Supporting Food Self-Sufficiency in West Java

The Ir. H. Djuanda Dam, more commonly known as the Jatiluhur Reservoir, is the largest dam in Indonesia. Construction began in 1957, and it was officially inaugurated on August 26, 1967. The dam is located in Jatiluhur District, Purwakarta Regency, West Java Province, approximately 9 kilometers from the city center. After more than five decades of operation, maintaining this 58-year-old dam has become increasingly complex. Challenges range from worsening water quality caused by upstream pollution in the Citarum River to human activities that contribute to damage to power generation turbines, water gates, and dam structures. The operation and maintenance of Jatiluhur Dam are carried out by Perum Jasa Tirta II, while rehabilitation and improvement works continue to be undertaken by the Citarum River Basin Organization (BBWS Citarum). BBWS Citarum plays a strategic role in ensuring the sustainability of the Ir. H. Djuanda Dam through various infrastructure rehabilitation programs. The dam has an inundation area of approximately 8,300 hectares and a storage capacity of 2.44 billion cubic meters. It serves as a hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 187.5 MW supplying electricity to the Java–Bali region and provides irrigation water to the Jatiluhur Irrigation Area, which covers 242,000 hectares. Given its extensive irrigation coverage, Jatiluhur Dam serves as a backbone of Indonesia’s national food security. However, challenges within the irrigation system continue to emerge. To address these issues, BBWS Citarum has implemented the Strategic Irrigation Modernization and Urgent Rehabilitation Project (SIMURP). This program aims to establish efficient, measurable, and sustainable water management practices in support of national food self-sufficiency. SIMURP applies the principles of Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), where irrigation is adjusted according to crop growth stages. During the planting season, higher water discharge is provided to optimally saturate the soil. During the growth phase, water discharge is reduced to improve efficiency. As harvest approaches, water is supplied in sufficient quantities to prevent excessively soft soil, thereby facilitating harvesting activities. This CSA approach has proven successful in increasing rice productivity across Indonesia. In 2024, based on data from 41 sample locations, average rice productivity increased by 1.28 tons of harvested dry grain per hectare. One notable success story can be found in the Cengkong Secondary Canal in Karawang Regency. Rice productivity increased from 5–6 tons to 7–8 tons per hectare following the modernization of a 3.7-kilometer irrigation network serving 382 hectares of rice fields across three villages: Sukasari, Karangsari, and Darawolong. Thanks to ongoing irrigation modernization efforts, the government’s commitment to managing irrigation water availability has produced tangible results. On Wednesday (January 7), President Prabowo Subianto officially declared that Indonesia had achieved national food self-sufficiency. The announcement was made during the National Harvest Celebration and Food Self-Sufficiency Declaration held in Kertamukti Village, Cilebar District, Karawang Regency. The harvest was supported by irrigation water supplied through the Tanjungsari Secondary Canal, which is part of the Jatiluhur Irrigation Area serving 237,790 hectares of agricultural land across Indramayu, Subang, Karawang, Bekasi, and Purwakarta Regencies. This demonstrates the vital role of the Ir. H. Djuanda Dam in storing water and the Jatiluhur Irrigation Area in distributing it, both of which have significantly contributed to Indonesia’s achievement of food self-sufficiency. As such, this monumental national asset must continue to be preserved so that its benefits remain sustainable and far-reaching. Through BBWS Citarum, the Directorate General of Water Resources of the Ministry of Public Works actively contributes to achieving national development priorities by ensuring the availability and management of irrigation water within the Jatiluhur Irrigation Area. Industry calls for recycling investments to be factored into the EPR scheme.

JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Food and beverage industry players are urging the government to factor corporate investments in building recycling ecosystems into the performance-based Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy through an eco-modulation scheme. Public Affairs Sustainability Director of Danone Indonesia, Karyanto Wibowo, stated that the implementation of EPR should not merely serve as a waste management financing mechanism, but also function as an instrument to drive packaging innovation, enhance material circularity, and bolster investment in recycling infrastructure. “We believe that EPR serves not only as a waste management financing mechanism, but also as an instrument to encourage packaging innovation, increase material circularity, invest in recycling infrastructure, and develop more sustainable business models,” Karyanto said in Jakarta on Monday (Aug 31). The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) previously pushed for the implementation of EPR using an eco-modulation approachoffering incentives based on an industry's environmental performance, including the use of recycled and sustainable materials. Karyanto emphasized that corporate investments in collection, sorting, and recycling facilities including the empowerment of waste pickers and the development of recycled material supply chains must be credited as part of their EPR contribution. According to him, this recognition is essential to prevent double charging for companies that have proactively invested in building a circular ecosystem. “Companies that invested early in the circular ecosystem have helped build national capacity, which ultimately supports the achievement of government targets as well,” he added.
