Tasikmalaya City is a city in West Java Province, Indonesia. It's also known as the Pearl of East Priangan, as its development continues.
The history of the establishment of Tasikmalaya City as an autonomous region is inseparable from the history of the establishment of Tasikmalaya Regency as its parent regency. Previously, this city was the capital of Tasikmalaya Regency, then its status was raised to an administrative city in 1976, when A. Bunyamin served as Regent of Tasikmalaya, and then became an independent city government during the Tasikmalaya Regency Government led by its regent at that time, H. Suljana W.H.
The Pearl of East Priangan is the nickname for the city of Tasikmalaya. Tasikmalaya is a city in West Java Province. The city is located at 108° 08′ 38″ – 108° 24′ 02″ East Longitude and 7° 10′ – 7° 26′ 32″ South Latitude in the southeastern part of West Java Province. This city was formerly a regency, but over time, two forms of government were formed: the Regency Government and the Tasikmalaya City Government.
The historical milestone of the birth of the city of Tasikmalaya, began to roll when Tasikmalaya Regency was led by A. Bunyamin, Regent of Tasikmalaya for the period 1976 - 1981. At that time, through Government Regulation Number 22 of 1976, the Administrative City of Tasikmalaya was inaugurated by the Minister of Home Affairs who at that time was held by H. Amir Machmud. At the beginning of its formation, the administrative city area of Tasikmalaya included 3 sub-districts, namely Cipedes, Cihideung and Tawang with a total of 13 villages.
Then in 2001, the formation of the Tasikmalaya City Government was initiated by the Regent of Tasikmalaya, Col. Inf. H. SuIjana Wirata Hadisubrata (1996 – 2001), by forming a Success Team for the Formation of the Tasikmalaya City Government chaired by H. Yeng Ds. Partawinata SH. Through a long process, finally under the leadership of the Regent Drs. Tatang Farhanul Hakim, on October 17, 2001 through Law Number 10 of 2001, the Formation of the Tasikmalaya City Government as an autonomous regional government was determined by the Minister of Home Affairs on behalf of the President of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta together with the cities of Lhoksumawe, Langsa, Padangsidempuan, Prabumulih, Lubuk Linggau, Pager Alam, Tanjung Pinang, Cimahi, Batu, Sikawang and Bau-bau. Furthermore, on October 18, 2001, the inauguration of Drs. H. Wahyu Suradiharja as Acting Mayor of Tasikmalaya by the Governor of West Java was held at Gedung Sate Bandung.
Through Decree No. 133 of 2001, dated December 13, 2001, the General Election Commission formed the Committee for Filling Membership of the Tasikmalaya City People's Representative Council (PPK-DPRD), then the appointment of members of the Tasikmalaya City DPRD was ratified through the Decree of the Governor of West Java, No. 171/Kep.380/Dekon/2002, dated April 26, 2002, and on April 30, 2002, the first membership of the Tasikmalaya City DPRD was inaugurated. Then on November 14, 2002, Drs. H. Bubun Bunyamin was inaugurated as Mayor of Tasikmalaya, as a result of the stages of the election process carried out by the legislature.
According to Law No. 10 of 2001, the Tasikmalaya City area consists of 8 sub-districts with 15 sub-districts and 54 villages, but in its journey through Regional Regulation No. 30 of 2003 concerning the change in status of villages to sub-districts, villages within the Tasikmalaya City Government changed their status to sub-districts, therefore the number of sub-districts became 69 sub-districts, while the sub-districts increased to 10 sub-districts, which include:

Tasikmalaya City is the third largest educational center in West Java after Bandung and Bogor, this is proven by the many educational institutions in this city such as the Tasikmalaya Health Polytechnic, the UPI Bandung Branch located in Tasikmalaya, BSI Tasikmalaya, dozens of private universities, and Siliwangi State University which is the largest university in the eastern and southern Priangan region. Siliwangi University or commonly known as Unsil is a priority university of choice. This proves that this university's track record is very good and cannot be underestimated.
Tasikmalaya is known as the City of Santri, especially in the era before the 1980s because almost all over this region there are Islamic boarding schools that teach Islam, both large and small, and even gave birth to national struggle figures, including Zainal Mustafa.

Tasikmalaya City is located on the southern route of West Java. It also has a Type A bus terminal, one of the largest in West Java. Jalan Zaenal Mustafa, or HZ, is the main road and serves as kilometer 0 (KM 0) of Tasikmalaya City and is the city's economic center.
The sports that have produced many athletes from this city are badminton, athletics, pencak silat, and swimming. Tasikmalaya has a large stadium, the Dadaha Sports Hall, which often serves as a home base for many athletes from West Java.
