Kota Banjar

Banjar City is a city in West Java Province, Indonesia. It is located on the border with Central Java Province, namely with Cilacap Regency. Banjar is the main gateway to the southern route of West Java. To distinguish it from Banjarnegara in Central Java, the city is often called Banjar Patroman (from the original name "Banjar Pataruman"). The area of Banjar City is 13,197.23 Ha, located between 07°19′ – 07°26′ South Latitude and 108°26′ – 108°40′ East Longitude. Based on Law Number 27 of 2002 concerning the Establishment of Banjar City in West Java Province, it is approximately 113.49 Km2 or 11,349 Ha.

Administrative

Administratively, the city consists of four sub-districts: Banjar, Purwaharja, Pataruman, and Langensari, which are further divided into several villages and urban villages. Banjar was once a sub-district town within Ciamis Regency, but its status was later upgraded to an administrative city. On December 1, 2002, Banjar was designated an autonomous city separate from Ciamis Regency.

Landscape

Banjar City boasts a diverse landscape. The northern, southern, and western parts of the city are hilly. The city is bisected by the Citanduy River in the center. There are also some agricultural areas, especially on the outskirts of the city.
The agricultural zone in Banjar City consists of rice fields, teak plantations managed by Perhutani and ordinary tropical rainforests.
In 2006, the construction of a new city hall and a new Resort Police headquarters in Purwaharja District required the cutting of a number of hills and the clearing of teak forests.

Citanduy

The Citanduy River, which divides Banjar City, has been diverted at Purwaharja as part of the Citanduy-Ciwulan project. This project aims to irrigate rice fields in the Langensari area. Sand deposits have been found in several sections of the river.

The Economic Growth Rate (LPE) of Banjar City is quite significant, namely 4.20% in 2003 to 4.40% in 2004.
