History

In 1745, the forerunners of the Bogor community, originally nine settlement groups, were combined by Governor Baron Van Inhof to form the core of the Bogor Regency community. At that time, Regent Demang Wartawangsa sought to improve the quality of life and improve the people's welfare through agriculture by digging a canal from the Ciliwung to Cimahpar and from Nanggewer to Kalibaru/Kalimulya. Digging for the canal continued around the administrative center, but in 1754 the administrative center was located in Tanah Baru, then moved to Sukahati (now Kampung Empang).

There are various opinions about the origin of the name Bogor. One view holds that it comes from the word "Bahai" or "Baqar," meaning cow, as evidenced by a cow statue in the Bogor Botanical Gardens.

Another opinion states that the name Bogor comes from the word "Bokor," meaning "sugar palm stump" (kawung). This opinion has its own basis and reasoning, and is believed to be true by every expert. However, historical records indicate that on April 7, 1752, the word "Bogor" appeared in a document, written as "Hoofd Van de Negorij Bogor," meaning "head of the Bogor village." The document also indicates that the village head was located within the Botanical Gardens, which began construction in 1817.

The history of Bogor Regency is closely linked to the kingdoms that once ruled the region. Four centuries earlier, Sri Baduga Maharaja was known as the king who initiated the Pajajaran era. He was renowned for his "highly respected ancestral teachings and pursuit of prosperity." Since then, the history of the region has seen successive kingdoms rise, including:

  1. The Taruma Negara Kingdom, ruled by 12 kings. In power from the year 358 to the year 669.
  2. The Galuh Kingdom, ruled by 14 kings. In power from 516 to 852.
  3. The Sundanese Kingdom, ruled by 28 kings. Reigned from 669 to 1333. Then continued the Kawali Kingdom which was ruled by 6 kings from 1333 to 1482.

The Pajajaran Kingdom ruled from 1482 to 1579. The inauguration of the king, known as Sri Baduga Maharaja, was a particular focus. The Kuwedabhakti ceremony, held on June 3, 1482, was famous. This date was later designated as Bogor's anniversary, officially confirmed by a plenary session of the Bogor Regency DPRD on May 26, 1972.

In 1975, the Central Government (in this case the Minister of Home Affairs) instructed that Bogor Regency must have its own Government Center in the Regency area and move from the Government Center of Bogor City. Based on this, the Bogor Level II Regional Government conducted research in several areas of the Bogor Level II Regency to be used as a candidate for the capital city and also to serve as the center of government. Alternative locations to be selected include the Ciawi (Rancamaya), Leuwiliang, Parung and Cibinong (Central Village) Districts.

Further research revealed that Rancamaya, located in Ciawi District, was proposed to the central government for approval as a potential capital city. However, the central government considered Rancamaya relatively close to the Bogor Municipality's administrative center and feared it would be included in the city's expansion and development plans.

Therefore, on the instructions of the Central Government, the Bogor Level II regional government chose one of the alternative areas from the results of other studies. In the 1980 Plenary Session of the Bogor Level II Regional DPRD, it was decided that the prospective capital of the Bogor Level II Regency would be located in Tengah Village, Cibinong District.

The determination of the prospective capital city was proposed again to the Central Government and received approval and was confirmed by Government Regulation Number 6 of 1982, which stated that the central government capital of the Bogor Regency would be located in Tengah Village, Cibinong District. Since then, the preparation plan for the construction of the central government capital of the Bogor Regency began and on October 5, 1985, the first stone was laid by the Regent of the Bogor Regency at that time.
