Greater Cirebon Regional Landfill becomes Rebana Region's Strategic Project

Cirebon - To support the industrial activities of the West Java Metropolitan Rebana Area, the Cirebon Regency Environmental Agency (DLH) projects that the Regional Landfill (TPA) can accommodate up to 80 thousand tons of waste.

Head of DLH Cirebon Regency, Iwan Ridwan Hardiawan, said that the construction of this regional landfill was initiated by the West Java Provincial Government. “The construction of this regional landfill is a strategic part of the development of the Rebana Metropolitan Area, which was initiated by the West Java Provincial Government with full support from Cirebon Regency,” said Iwan, Tuesday (27/8/2024).

Carrying the waste to energy concept, later the waste in this regional landfill will also be utilized as alternative energy. So with this method, the waste collected at the facility will not accumulate because it is processed again into alternative energy raw materials.

“By using a system like this (waste to energy), of course, the waste in this landfill will not accumulate,” he explained.

He remains optimistic that this project can provide benefits, especially for the community, even though the available land area has been adjusted from 50 hectares to 35 hectares.

“The construction of the Regional Landfill in Cirebon Regency has entered the pre-plan stage,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pj Regent of Cirebon Wahyu Mijaya revealed that his party is exploring cooperation with one of the foreign investors, who is interested in investing in waste management at the Regional Landfill.

“To support all of this, we are now exploring with foreign investors in the regional landfill,” he explained.

He explained that the investor offered to invest in waste management with incineration technology without requiring a tipping fee. “The investor's interest is driven by the potential benefits both financially and environmentally owned by the landfill located in Walahar Village, Cirebon,” he said.

In this way, the investment auction process will not burden local government finances, and his party has communicated with the local community so that this investment can be realized.

“The Greater Cirebon agglomeration area needs this kind of waste management system so that the handling of waste can be handled properly,” he concluded.
