Ciater is one of tea plantations owned by PT Perkebunan Nusantara VIII (PTPN VIII) in Subang that has potentiality for agro-tourism development with the natural beauty of its tea field scenery and cool fresh air. Driven by promising market demand for nature-based tourism in Bandung-Lembang-Subang corridor area, PTPN VIII is planning to develop an integrated agrotourism area covering 445 Ha of land in Ciater. The location of Ciater in Subang Regency is directly adjacent to Bandung Regency in the south and has direct access which connects the northern coastal line (Pantura) with the city of Bandung. The current land use of Ciater is dominated by tea plantation and existing agrotourism objects including cottages, tea walk path, viewing deck, camping ground and waterfalls. The area is supported by public utilities such as electricity, clean water, waste management, telecommunication and internet networks. Currently Ciater is one of attractive tourist destinations in West Java where several nearby tourism objects are available such as Sari Ater hot spring, Orchid Forest, and further to the south there are Tangkuban Parahu Crater, Floating Market and Park and Zoo.

PTPN VIII has prepared a master plan and feasibility study to build a 445 Ha integrated tourism zone that consists of 9 subzones including Adventure Zone, Conservation Area, Commercial, Tropical Farm, Paragliding, Convention Area, Theme Park, Cottages and Restaurants and Public Facilities. The main theme of Ciater Agrotourism Area is “Sustainable Agro-tourism with Tea Plantation as Fundamental Attraction, Based on Local Wisdom with Variety, Innovation and Creativity”. The concept is to develop nature-based tourism area where tea plantations are maintained to be the main attraction, as well as used as base area for adventure recreation by taking advantage of the undulating hilly character of the land. Likewise, other natural features such as forest and waterfalls are maintained as interesting tourism attractions and conservation area. The existence of a tea factory on site is used as a point of interest by developing educational tours regarding tea cultivation and processing. To accommodate long-stay visitors, cottages and lodges with tea plantation view are also planned to be main features in the area.
