Bisnis.com, BANDUNG-- The agricultural sector is one of the major potentials of Sumedang Regency. This is evidenced by the inclusion of the Circular Economy-Based Organic Agriculture Integration project in the top 10 priority investment projects of the West Java Investment Challenge (WJIC) 2025.
Sumedang Regent Dony Ahmad Munir acknowledged that his region has great potential in this sector. Therefore, this sector continues to be strengthened to improve the welfare of its people, the majority of whom earn their livelihood within this ecosystem.
“Sumedang is rich in food products, and the majority of its people work as farmers,” he said.
Dony said that agricultural products from Sumedang are already well-known nationally. These include rice, Cilembu sweet potatoes, gedong gincu mangoes, and tobacco, which grows abundantly in the area known as Kota Tahu.
According to him, this also presents an investment opportunity to maximize this potential. Of course, with the increase in this investment sector, there will be a direct correlation with the community's involvement in these economic activities.
He acknowledged that despite its great potential, farmers must understand the integrated agricultural system. This way, in addition to quality, quantity can also be achieved.
“The challenge is the sustainability of the supply of superior products from Sumedang, so there must be simultaneous production circulation so that demand can continue to be met,” he explained.
He gave an example of the gedong gincu mango, a superior product of farmers from Buahdua, Ujungjaya to Tomo, which is in high demand by foreign consumers. However, the planting and warehousing cycles must be modernized so that production volume can be optimized.
In addition, there is also Cilembu sweet potato, which has entered many global markets. However, in terms of stock availability, it must be increased again.
The Sumedang Regency Government, he added, has been regularly allocating budgets to support the agricultural sector. This includes providing agricultural machinery, revitalizing irrigation systems, and improving farm roads.
“The hope is that Sumedang can fully support the central government's food self-sufficiency program,” he emphasized.
