Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto Backs Waste-to-Energy Power Plant Project

Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto Tjahyono has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the successful implementation of National Strategic Projects (PSNs) in Bekasi City, West Java. One of the city's priority projects is the Waste-to-Energy (WtE) Plant, locally known as the Waste-to-Energy Processing (PSEL) project.

The Waste-to-Energy plant will be developed on a 6.1-hectare site, which will also feature green open spaces, including a mini zoo. Mayor Tri Adhianto stated that the land is currently undergoing site preparation.

While expressing optimism about the project's progress, Tri Adhianto acknowledged that several challenges remain. These include social considerations as well as safety risks such as landslides and fires due to the heavy waste load at the Bantar Gebang Final Disposal Site (TPA Bantar Gebang).

The Waste-to-Energy project forms part of a collaborative initiative involving the Bekasi City Government, the West Java Provincial Government, and the Central Government. Once completed, it will complement other major infrastructure projects in the region, including the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system, the Jakarta–Bandung High-Speed Railway, and the regional drinking water pipeline network.

West Java Governor: Investment Must Benefit Communities and the Environment

Bandung (ANTARA) – West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi reminded that investment should bring benefits to both the environment and local communities, not the opposite—such as causing water shortages, damaged roads, environmental degradation, or poor access to education and healthcare. “Investment should provide benefits to its surroundings, from the environment to the people,” Dedi said on the sidelines of the 34th Apindo National Working Conference (Rakerkonas) in Bandung, Tuesday (Aug 5). He pointed out that in many cases, companies’ operations have polluted their surroundings, but the compensation provided is often irrelevant or inadequate. “When pollution occurs, it’s the community that suffers first. But in the end, companies only offer compensation in the form of groceries or milk. I reject that. Pollution has nothing to do with giving away food packages,” he stressed. Dedi highlighted the large number of industrial companies producing air, noise, and liquid waste that directly affect residents. According to him, long-term solutions must focus on improving environmental infrastructure. “Fix the waste management system. Don’t just hand out food packages. This has to be corrected immediately,” he said. He also underlined that investment should create employment opportunities for local residents. However, he received reports of HR officers demanding illegal fees during recruitment processes. “There are HR personnel who exploit local people—charging money for jobs. This is a serious issue. West Java DPRD Approves Nine Draft Regional Regulations in the 2025 Propemperda

PORTALJABAR, KOTA BANDUNG - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin attended the West Java Provincial DPRD Plenary Meeting at the West Java DPRD building, Bandung City, Friday (8/11/2024). In the plenary meeting, Bey expressed his appreciation for the DPRD's approval of the 2025 Regional Regulation Formation Program (Propemperda), which includes nine draft regional regulations (ranperda) proposed by the West Java Provincial Government. "We have proposed 11 draft regional regulations to be discussed in 2025 through a letter dated 17 October 2024. Of these proposals, nine draft regional regulations were agreed to be accommodated in the 2025 Propemperda," said Bey Machmudin. One of the nine regional regulations is the Regional Regulation on the Regional Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMD) for West Java Province for 2025-2029. Apart from that, there are two other draft regional regulations, namely the Draft Regional Regulation on Investment and Ease of Doing Business, and the Draft Regional Regulation on Amendments to the Regional Regulations of West Java Province Number 2 of 2019 concerning the General Regional Energy Plan, which are still in the process of being discussed at the Special Committee (Pansus) level, which is launch of Propemperda 2024. Bey said that several proposed regional regulations had a strategic role in strengthening Regional Owned Enterprises (BUMD) and supporting infrastructure development in West Java, including regional regulations regarding the management of West Java International Airport (BIJB) and Kertajati Aerocity. The draft regional regulation was prepared as a follow-up to the full operation of Kertajati Airport, Majalengka Regency, following the transfer of flights from Bandung, which is projected to increase the need for working capital and investment. "In addition to strengthening airport management, the draft regional regulation also harmonizes the provisions of Government Regulation Number 54 of 2017 concerning BUMD," he said.
